Today, we reflect on those who gave everything in service to our country. We remember. We honor. We are grateful.

Did you know Modern Woodmen members had their own version of Memorial Day? In the late 1800s, Modern Woodmen camps (now chapters) set aside a special day – typically the first Sunday in June – to honor members who had passed away. This tradition is believed to have begun in 1890 in Dubuque, Iowa, before spreading to camps across the country. Many chapters continue this tradition today. These remembrance days were intentionally held on a different date so members could also fully observe the national Memorial Day – a time dedicated to honoring and remembering the servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
