Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

I serve as a financial ally for my clients, partnering with them to reach their goals more quickly and avoid pitfalls along the way. My work is relational. I love working with my clients over time and watching them move in the direction of their dreams.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance, annuities, stocks, bonds, ETFs, mutual funds and variable annuities.

I enjoy working with…

individuals and business owners who are looking for holistic, personalized advice.

I attended…

the Templeton Honors College at Eastern University just outside Philadelphia, PA, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in 2004 and my Master of Education in Multicultural Education in 2012.

I am very proud of…

our local Modern Woodmen chapter of volunteers, which has partnered with a host of very special community organizations in the tri-county Charleston area.

Before Modern Woodmen, I…

spent 10 years teaching high school English and Journalism, first in north Philadelphia and then in Hanahan, South Carolina. I taught students about Shakespeare and Whitman, Twain and Fitzgerald. Now I teach people how to avoid financial disaster and build toward their dreams.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

our organization's fraternal approach offers us the opportunity to help people reach their own goals while also doing good in the community. By joining Modern Woodmen, members don't just help people in some far-off location, but right where they live!

The best part of my career is…

that moment when people realize that they can start working toward their dreams today instead of waiting for tomorrow, and that doing the right thing for themselves and their loved ones can also help the less fortunate in their community.

“I enjoy working with clients who want a partner, not just a quick purchase.”

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my superhero wife, Alina, and our three little whirlwinds, Jonathan, Sophie Grace and Joshua.

In my free time, you can find me…

playing soccer with my son Jonathan, reading princess stories with my daughter Sophie Grace, building forts with my son Joshua, running in circles with my one-year-old Josiah, and taking my wonderful wife out for ice cream. As a family we love growing fruits and vegetables in our backyard garden, watching superhero movies, playing frisbee golf, and walking Charleston’s waterfront.

I’m passionate about…

helping young people. First as a volunteer in a youth ministry and then as a high school teacher, I've had the opportunity to get to know some amazing students. I love their enthusiasm and their no-nonsense approach to life. It is a privilege to help them start building their financial houses and pursuing their dreams.

My greatest blessing is…

my relationship with the Lord, and the security that my family and I have in Him.

My personal motto is…

“Never once in my life did I ask God for success or wisdom or power or fame. I asked for wonder, and He gave it to me." -- Abraham Joshua Heschel

My hidden talent is…

the ability to eat my body-weight in chocolate peanut butter ice cream.

Community impact

In the community

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

since 2014. Before that, I lived in California, Wisconsin, Indiana, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and England. While I've lived in a number of places, Summerville is home. We're here to stay.

What I like best about my community is…

Summerville's small-town feel. Even though the community is growing at an amazing pace, the southern charm is ever-present. Neighbors say hello to each other and know each other's names; the cars don't honk at each other (at least, not too often); and we all love a good sweet tea.

My favorite volunteer activities are…

partnering with our Modern Woodmen chapter board to organize family-friendly community service projects and social events. Since 2018, we have cheered on the Riverdogs and the Stingrays, watched The Lion King on opening night, taken a private tour of Charles Towne Landing, savored barbeque at Swig and Swine, cooled off with ice cream at Ye Olde Fashioned, marched to raise money for clean drinking water in developing countries, honored hometown heroes and much more.

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

partnerships we have developed with local nonprofit organizations, such as Metanoia, Doors to Freedom, Katie's Krops, Fresh Start Visions and others. I love seeing families working together, building relationships and partnering with others in their community to make a difference.

🎖️ Member Spotlight: Luke Willard We’re proud to highlight Luke Willard, an Airman First Class (A1C / E-3) serving with honor in the Air National Guard, a vital reserve component of the United States Air Force. Luke recently returned from a deployment-for-training (DFT) to Germany, where his squadron supported operations involving a SCIF (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility)—highly secure areas used for handling classified intelligence. These missions require strict protocols, offering valuable real-world experience for service members like Luke. Traveling aboard a C-130 military aircraft, Luke and his fellow airmen were treated to an unforgettable first: the flight crew invited them into the cockpit during takeoff and landing to observe and ask questions—a rare and exciting opportunity for many on board. When asked what he enjoys most about his military service, Luke pointed to the hands-on training, the chance to learn new skills, and the travel opportunities—like this mission to Germany. He originally joined for the education benefits and to gain a head start on his future career, and he’s making the most of every opportunity. Luke also shared how much he’s appreciated working with Brent at Modern Woodmen, saying the financial guidance has helped him make smart decisions early in his career. “Starting early,” he said, “has been a huge advantage.” Fun Fact About Luke: He’s Wild About Socks! 🧦 What started as a small tradition between Luke and his mom and three older sisters—gifting him fun, uniquely designed socks—has grown into a full-blown passion. Over time, more friends and family joined in, hunting for the most creative and outrageous socks they could find for him. Before long, Luke realized he had quite the collection—117 pairs by January 2024! That’s when he challenged himself to wear a different pair each day and document it on social media. His “Sock of the Day” posts quickly became a hit, with people eagerly checking in to see what wild pattern or theme would show up next. The collection kept growing—thanks in part to a sock-of-the-month club—and so did his fan base. He even took a short hiatus while traveling overseas, and followers were quick to notice: “Where’s the sock post?!” Now, Luke’s on a mission to one day wear a different pair every single day of the year. Until then, the socks keep coming, and so do the smiles. Luke represents the next generation of investors-disciplined, forward-thinking, and committed to building a strong future. Thank you for your service and dedication to our US Military. You’re a valued member of the Modern Woodmen family, and we’re proud to spotlight you.

Please join us as we come alongside a sweet Summerville family who recently suffered financial hardship—and SAVE MONEY getting your car washed at the same time! After mold was discovered in their home, the Meyer family had to move out and their home was torn down to the studs. They experienced health issues, lost most of their possessions, and then—just as their home rebuild began— their insurance claim was denied! In partnership with Modern Woodmen of America and Tidal Wave Auto Spa, we are raising money to help with their rebuild. The top-of-the-line car wash and wax at Tidal Wave Auto Spa normally sells for $30. In support of the Meyer family, you can now buy vouchers for these GraphX-4 car washes for just $10–and ALL $10 you spend will go to help the Meyer family! Between now and July 31, Modern Woodmen of America will match all funds raised up to $2,500. How you can help: 1.Order vouchers! Please email me at [email protected] with the number of vouchers you would like and your mailing address. 2. Post the attached fundraising flyer on social media to help us spread the word!! Vouchers are good for 12 MONTHS and can be used at ANY Tidal Wave Auto Spa in the US! They make great gifts for Father’s Day, birthdays, teacher appreciation days, etc.

Summerville Chapter 5115 just hosted our annual “Hello Summer!” ice cream social as we rang in summer! We had a great time visiting with all of our members. It is an honor to serve them. We are looking forward to our next social event, "Skating through Summer!" Our Chapter will be skating around the Ice Palace! If you would like more information about these events, I would love to speak with you!

Our Summerville Chapter 5115 partnered with Habitat for Humanity and helped build a small home for a family in need. We dedicated 56 hours to building this home. It was so beautiful to be able to work alongside the homeowner. She was very grateful for our service, and we got to hear her testimony. Most of us don't have a carpentry background, but it was so much fun learning! I think it is safe to say that each of us learned something new. Our next service project event is at Dorchester Paws. We would love to have you join us. If you are looking for a financial representative who gives back to the community, I would love to speak with you.
