Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

I am so blessed to be able to make a living by helping others as well as their communities. Each day, I sit down and help people overcome financial concerns and obstacles. I also get to help my community with our fraternal programs and activities. It’s very rewarding to be able to do what I do.

I serve members in…

Philip, Martin, Wall, Rapid City and anywhere else in South Dakota.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance, annuities, mutual funds and variable annuities.

I enjoy working with…

all ages of families, business owners and employees.

I attended…

Black Hills State University of South Dakota.

I am very proud of…

my professional designations and my accomplishments of earning Agent of the Year, Tutsch Region, in 2014 and 2015, earning President's Club status in 2015, and earning Century Club status seven out of 10 years.

Before Modern Woodmen, I…

I worked for another insurance company for four years, and before that I worked at and managed an ag co-op station for 24 years.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

I believe in the organization – not only for how it supports members to help them reach their financial goals, but also for the way it supports my community and allows me to give back.

The best part of my career is…

helping my members. Whether it's planning for their retirement or protecting their families with life insurance, I feel good knowing I helped make a positive impact on their lives.

A favorite moment in my career was when…

I delivered a death claim to a young family, knowing it would make a difference in their lives forever. The only parent that was left passed away, and the death benefit went to the only child. She will then use it to help her children with college expenses.

Also…

I love holding Matching Fund projects and having a huge success in raising money for people and organizations in need, to build on what they already have.

“My personal motto is to always remember the Golden Rule! Treat others how you would like to be treated, or better, and expect nothing in return.”

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my wife of over 40 years, Jolene; my daughter, Heather, her husband, Justin, and their children, Kaitlin, Rylee and Brianna; Kaitlin's son, Dawson, and Kaitlin's fiancée, Trevor; my son, Brad, his wife, Tanya, and their children, Jaida, Talan and Terik; and my daughter, Melanie, and her twin boys, Caiden and Colin.

In my free time, you can find me…

cheering on my grandchildren, working in my yard or doing gardening. You might not find me much on weekends now, because we plan to take road trips in our Mustang convertible.

I’m passionate about…

my family and friends. I also love football and my Denver Broncos, and I enjoy watching games on TV.

My greatest blessing is…

my family, my siblings, my health and the values my parents taught me.

My personal motto is…

always remember the Golden Rule! Treat others how you would like to be treated, or better, and expect nothing in return.

My hidden talent is…

I do like to cook and garden.

Also…

I love to work in my yard and make it look beautiful.

Community impact

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

for 40 years now and enjoy calling it home.

What I like best about my community is…

the amazing people. People genuinely care for one another and give back to make this community great.

I’m a member of…

the chamber of commerce and the First Lutheran Church.

My favorite volunteer activities are…

hands-on activities where I can see the results of my hard work, such as barbecuing burgers before the Match Bronc Ride during Philip Scottie Days, or anything where I can help children, along with my grandkids, to teach them the importance of giving back.

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

Matching Fund projects to raise money for those in need.

My favorite memory from a fraternal event is…

when we recently raised over $20,000 by hosting a pancake and sausage feed for a local lady who has cystic fibrosis and is waiting for a lung transplant. The money will be used to help offset medical expenses.

Also…

I enjoy planting trees in different areas of the community such as the Lasting Legacy Golf Course, Lake Waggoner Campsite and various parks.
