Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

I am so blessed to make a living by helping others and their communities. Each day, I sit down and help people overcome financial concerns and obstacles. I also get to help my community with our fraternal programs and activities. It’s very rewarding to do what I do.

I serve members in…

Spartanburg, Laurens, Greenville and Cherokee counties in South Carolina, as well as western North Carolina.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance and annuities.

I enjoy working with…

families and retirees.

I attended…

Western Piedmont University, where I received a degree in accounting.

I am very proud of…

being a resource and serving my clients in the financial services industry for over 50 years.

Before Modern Woodmen, I…

worked as a representative and in management roles for other insurance companies.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

it's a family-oriented, fraternal organization. I’m not just serving my members – I’m caring for my extended family.

The best part of my career is…

preparing families for all the "ifs" in life. Being there for people when they need it most and helping them have peace of mind is very rewarding.

A favorite moment in my career was when…

a member I was working said, "David, you can't ever retire. We depend on you so much." I was touched by his comment. To them, I’m their resource and friend.

Also…

I am a member of NAIFA Upstate and past president of NAIFA South Carolina. I teach Sunday school, am active in the Men's Fellowship at my church, and enjoy our mission trips to help families and individuals in need. We can be there to make their lives a little better.

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my wife, Peggy, my daughters, April and Brandie, my son, James, my stepdaughters, Angie and Teresa, and my precious eight grandchildren.

In my free time, you can find me…

cheering on the grandkids, working in the garden and the yard, golfing or fishing.

I’m passionate about…

my family, my friends, my church family, my clients and members, and doing things for others.

My greatest blessing is…

my faith and my family.

My personal motto is…

"It's not about what you do when others are looking, it's about what you do when they are not looking."

My hidden talent is…

I love to grow my own produce and have a voice good enough to sing in a choir.

Community impact

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

of South Carolina for 24 years. I have lived in Chesnee for the past four years. Before that, I lived in North Carolina for almost three decades.

What I like best about my community is…

it is a small community and people know each other by first name. They don't just take, they also give back. On a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, you'll find people walking, visiting the Cowpens Battleground, and leisurely riding motorcycles on scenic Highway11. It's just a very peaceful place to be.

I’m a member of…

NAIFA Upstate, NAIFA-South Carolina, Northbrook Baptist Church and the Baptist Men's Association.

My favorite volunteer activities are…

going on mission trips and working in my community with older adults, underprivileged children, and other people in need.

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

volunteering, Matching Fund projects, Hometown Hero awards, and providing positive experiences for kids with Modern Woodmen’s local youth service clubs.

My favorite memory from a fraternal event is…

presenting a Hometown Hero award to a woman who has made a positive impact on children and young adults in her community for over 50 years. She had no idea she was getting the award!
