Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

I am so blessed to be able to make a living by helping others and their communities. Each day, I sit down and help people overcome financial concerns and obstacles. I also get to help my community with our fraternal programs and activities. It’s very rewarding to be able to do what I do.

I serve members in…

many towns in Kansas, including Ottawa, surrounding towns and cities in Franklin County, and many other towns in the state. I am also licensed to do business in Missouri.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance, annuities, mutual funds and variable annuities.

I enjoy working with…

families of all ages, small-business owners, those approaching retirement and retired families. They are all special members.

I attended…

Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas, and graduated from Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a minor in Biology.

I am very proud of…

being a member of Modern Woodmen's Century Club, earning the NAFIC Quality Award for many years and being a past qualifier of Modern Woodmen's President's Club.

Before Modern Woodmen, I…

was a manager for various farmer-owned cooperatives in the state of Kansas for 20 years.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

I believe in the way the organization supports members, gives back to communities and offers great financial products.

The best part of my career is…

growing with families and helping with their needs, whether it's life insurance protection, retirement planning or other financial needs.

A favorite moment in my career was when…

our local Modern Woodmen chapter held a Matching Fund project for a young cancer victim. We raised almost $15,000 to help the family with medical expenses.

Also…

I have been with Modern Woodmen long enough to see small children become young adults, who I am also able to help with their financial goals.

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my wife, Patty, our son, Tim, and our daughter, Shelly. We are blessed with three grandchildren, Bailey, Kylie and Hunter.

In my free time, you can find me…

out in my garden, working in the yard, on the golf course, bowling or watching the many activities our grandchildren are involved with.

I’m passionate about…

family, friends and sharing the Modern Woodmen story. I also love to watch and listen to the K-State Wildcats, Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs.

My greatest blessing is…

my family, friends and working for Modern Woodmen.

My personal motto is…

"Everything happens for a reason; make the best of it."

My hidden talent is…

making sure there are no weeds in my garden. I also have three different kinds of grills on my deck and have been known to cook out quite often. I also have a strange talent in remembering phone numbers ... even those not called for many years!

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

almost my entire life, with only a few years gone when I was managing farm cooperatives around the state of Kansas.

What I like best about my community is…

all the amazing people in my community I consider friends. This community always helps each other out in times of need and comes together as a group.

I’m a member of…

the local Baptist church, Ottawa Main Street Association, Ottawa Optimist Club (where I am currently president) and Kansas Fraternal Insurance Counselors (where I've been secretary-treasurer for 15 years).

My favorite volunteer activities are…

any social or civic events that allow me to visit with members and friends in the community. I enjoy the Modern Woodmen activities because they bring families together.

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

Matching Fund projects to raise money for those in need.

My favorite memory from a fraternal event is…

when our local chapter raised almost $15,000 through a golf tournament to help a family who had a child with cancer.

Also…

I really enjoy the various ways I can give back to the community with Modern Woodmen programs. It makes me proud to work for this great organization.

Community impact: A common bond that unites our members. Modern Woodmen and those we serve work together to identify local needs and make an impact in communities nationwide. It’s part of what makes us unique as a fraternal financial services organization. Fraternalism is a way of caring and giving back. It’s about being part of something bigger than yourself. #ModernSince1883
