Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

I’m passionate about helping my members determine their financial goals. We work together to help create a plan based on their unique needs.

I serve members in…

central Florida, from Melbourne to Orlando. However, I do have members throughout the U.S.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance, annuities, stocks, bonds, ETFs, mutual funds and variable annuities.

I enjoy working with…

families -- helping them plan their financial future; helping them insure their life against unanticipated tragedy and for peace of mind; helping plan their savings for emergencies, kids education and retirement; and helping them to not outlive their retirement savings.

I attended…

Bowling Green State University in Ohio, where I graduated cum laude. I majored in operations management. In my senior year, I was presented with The Wall Street Journal Award for being an outstanding senior in management.

I am very proud of…

having trained about 25 new Modern Woodmen agents over the years as a managing partner. In my first year with Modern Woodmen, I was awarded the Rookie Agent of the Year Award in the central Florida region. In 2014, I was presented the Jim Dearth Memorial Award as the agent/manager who had done the most in the region fraternally. I personally run four chapters and have started two new chapters in my district.

Before Modern Woodmen, I…

was a financial advisor for A.G. Edwards/Wachovia. Prior to that I had my own transportation business for nearly 17 years.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

it was a breath of fresh air in the financial industry. I had recently gone through the recession in 2008 and had seen how banks and brokerages handled their clients. They seemed to be more worried about the shareholders than the clients. At Modern Woodmen, the members are the owners, and our organization is more concerned for them than anybody else. The organization gives back to its members and the community.

The best part of my career is…

helping members realize that they have to control their financial futures. There is no magic genie out there looking out for them. It makes me feel good by making a positive impact in their lives.

A favorite moment in my career was when…

I delivered a check to a mother who had lost one of her sons when he was 19. She was financially strapped and needed an operation that she could not afford due to a lack of health insurance. Her sister had been paying the premium because she was unable to pay. She did not realize his coverage was still in place. She was able to have the operation.

Also…

Another favorite moment was when I did a fundraiser for a six-year-old boy with terminal brain cancer. Even though I spent five Saturdays and Sundays standing out in front of Publix selling raffle tickets, it was a joy to deliver a check for $6,000 to his mother. Unfortunately, London Peoples passed away several months later. Our organization does good for people. How can you beat that?

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my wife of 35 years, Linda. I have two sons, Chad (34) and Craig (31). I also have two daughter-in-laws, Marielle and Bunny. Hopefully soon grandkids.

In my free time, you can find me…

going to the gym, playing golf and spending time with my family.

I’m passionate about…

my family and friends. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and am a big Browns, Indians and Cavaliers fan. It has been hard to be a Cleveland fan, but I am a die-hard one!

My greatest blessing is…

without a doubt my family.

My personal motto is…

Do what is best for your clients.

My hidden talent is…

doing any kind of project around the house. I have painted, tiled, hung doors, and installed appliances and electrical outlets, among many other projects.

Community impact

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

since 1988. I consider myself a true Floridian now.

What I like best about my community is…

it is truly home. People are much more friendly than they were up north. I think that is because most people who live here are not from here originally, and they are much more open to meeting new people.

I’m a member of…

Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. I am the chapter coordinator for four chapters in The Villages, Orange City, Leesburg and Lake Mary. I get involved fraternally in all of these communities.

My favorite volunteer activities are…

raising funds for needy causes as well as providing community service in central Florida.

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

Matching Fund projects to raise money for those in need.

My favorite memory from a fraternal event is…

raising money for a six-year-old boy, London Peoples, who had terminal brain cancer. The money helped the boy with many adventures his last year with us.
