Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

I am so blessed to be able to make a living by helping others as well as their communities. Each day, I sit down and help people overcome financial concerns and obstacles. I also get to help my community with our fraternal programs and activities. It’s very rewarding to be able to do what I do.

I serve members in…

Pennsylvania -- Bedford, my hometown, and surrounding counties.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance and annuities.

I enjoy working with…

individuals, families, business owners and those looking for retirement options.

I attended…

Penn State University and Allegheny College of Maryland.

I am very proud of…

my success in the last 17 years with Modern Woodmen. I am extremely happy with the opportunities I have worked for, such as qualifying for our sales conferences almost every year I have been an agent. I am also proud of the fact that I have helped many people with their life plans throughout the years and have been there for them when there is a loss in their family. I believe God has blessed my career, and I am very thankful.

Before Modern Woodmen, I…

I was a district circulation manager at the local newspaper.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

I believe in Modern Woodmen, not only for how it supports its members to help them reach their financial goals, but also for the way it supports my community and allows me to give back.

The best part of my career is…

helping my members. Whether we're planning for their retirement or protecting their families with life insurance, I feel good knowing I helped make a positive impact on their lives. I appreciate the opportunity to be there for member families and acquaintances in need of my help.

A favorite moment in my career was when…

I delivered my first death claim to a young family. I knew how important the money was to them after the loss of their loved one and I knew I had a large part in their security moving forward.

Also…

I have really come to know so many new people, who I am grateful to include as my close friends. I have a good relationship with all my clients. I have gotten to enjoy fishing trips and hunting trips with many of them!

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my wife, Jenna, my dogs, Sam the beagle and Ralph the American Eskimo Spitz, a few cats and other (very numerous) farm animals. Plus, my father, Rickie Claar (who is also an agent with Modern Woodmen), my mother, Linda, my brothers, Jeremy and Jonathan, and their families -- and I am especially proud of my little sister, Kianna.

In my free time, you can find me…

gardening, fishing, hunting, vacationing, farming and traveling.

I’m passionate about…

my faith in God, my family and friends; the New York Mets and Miami Dolphins; and fishing and hunting.

My greatest blessing is…

my family, my health and the job I love doing.

My personal motto is…

always remember the Golden Rule! Treat others how you would like to be treated.

My hidden talent is…

I consider myself a great outdoorsman and a great cook!

Also…

I love taking care of my animals and mowing.

Community impact

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

my entire life! 42 years and counting!

What I like best about my community is…

It's home. It always has been and always will be! I love knowing everyone and consider everyone a friend.

I’m a member of…

Manns Choice Church of God, NAIFA, Trout Unlimited.

My favorite volunteer activities are…

helping people in need and helping children and seniors in my community.

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

Matching Fund projects to raise money for those in need.

My favorite memory from a fraternal event is…

when my chapter and its members held a fundraiser and Modern Woodmen matched the funds. We were able to help a member who was terminally ill and had no health insurance pay her bills.
