Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

I am blessed to have a career in which I am able to help people feel confident about their financial future. I enjoy building relationships with members and working together to help them achieve their goals.

I serve members in…

Wisconsin.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance, annuities, mutual funds and variable annuities.

I enjoy working with…

families, retirees, those approaching retirement and business owners.

I attended…

the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater.

I am very proud of…

earning Century Club in 2016, receiving the Fraternal Insurance Counselors Bronze Certificate and Fraternal Insurance Counselors Quality Service Award in 2015, and being chosen to be the student commencement speaker of my graduating class of 2012 at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater.

Before Modern Woodmen, I…

attended the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. I graduated with a bachelor's degree of business administration, majoring in entrepreneurship and minoring in dance.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

I feel like Modern Woodmen is a large family. Modern Woodmen not only gives me the tools to help members reach their financial goals, but also to do activities that bring the community together on a regular basis. This includes volunteering as well as social activities such as ice cream socials.

The best part of my career is…

the life-long relationships that I have built with my clients. Over time, many of my clients have become great friends. I am blessed to be a part of the special moments in people's lives whether it be new baby being born, a wedding or someone's retirement. This is why I do what I do.

A favorite moment in my career was when…

I was new to the industry. I was in a meeting and helping a couple plan out their retirement. I could physically see the sense of relief they had after sitting down. That was the moment that I really felt pride in what I do. To this day, I still get the same chills every time I sit down with someone and am able to give them that sense of relief. It reminds me that I truly love what I do.

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my two kitties, Cessna and Piper. They are named after airplanes because I love aviation. I have an older brother, Jonathan, an older sister, Aimee, and my two nephews, Seth and Ayden, who I love as if they were my own. I am also very close with both of my parents, John and Kay.

In my free time, you can find me…

working on the house or in the garage, in my woodworking shop, grilling out with my friends and family, or playing board games.

I’m passionate about…

many hobbies. I do not want to go through life without missing an opportunity to try new things. I enjoy aviation, woodworking, chess, card magic, cards (sheepshead), musical instruments, pingpong, any strategy board game, building new things, and ballroom dancing. I am a fan of any Wisconsin sports team.

My greatest blessing is…

my family and my health. I am thankful for my parents who have supported me in all of my hobbies and interests growing up and shaped me into the man I am today. I am also thankful for my brother and sister, who are my best friends. Finally, I am most thankful for God. God gives me strength every day to be the best version of myself.

My personal motto is…

to try and make someone's day every day. If I can make someone smile every day, then life is good!

My hidden talent is…

ballroom dance. I have been taking ballroom dance lessons for about a year now. My favorite dances are salsa/mambo, cha-cha, and rumba. However, the waltz is starting to grow on me.

Also…

card magic. I love the look someone gives when they have no clue what just happened! I am not a true magician, however, as I usually give away my secrets, especially to kids. It's fun when they can go back and show their parents and friends. I am also extremely passionate about woodworking. I enjoy giving my projects out as gifts. :)

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

for most of my life. After I graduated from UW-Whitewater, I decided to move back to West Bend. It is my home and it is a community that I love.

What I like best about my community is…

Music on Main! What an awesome way to bring the community together to socialize and enjoy downtown West Bend!

I’m a member of…

West Bend Chamber and United Way Emerging Leaders of Washington County. I am also on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County, and I'm a Big Brother myself.

My favorite volunteer activities are…

any activity in which we can get kids involved. It is important to show our youths that giving back is fun and rewarding!

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

enjoying social and educational opportunities with my local Modern Woodmen chapter.

My favorite memory from a fraternal event is…

our Hometown Hero award presentation for a retired police officer. We surprised him with friends and family at a local restaurant, Dublins, and donated $100 to a charity of his choice.

Also…

our Member Appreciation Fest that we hold each year. We enjoy grilling out, playing games and socializing with our members.

A special Christmas for deserving families

Each year in December, I hold a gift drive for families going through a difficult time. Last year, we collected over $500 worth of gifts, and our office purchased another $1,000 worth of gifts for these families. On Christmas Eve, I personally delivered the gifts to each of the six families we chose; half of them had no idea. The father of one family passed away last year, leaving his wife, a baby girl, and an 8-year-old daughter. When I came in the house, the daughter ran to me with tears in her eyes, saying "Thank you!" That same night, I surprised a family at the hospital. The 25-year-old son was in the hospital room with his parents. He's awaiting his second heart transplant and has been there for over 120 days. They were so grateful. Bringing smiles to these families made this my favorite day with Modern Woodmen by far!
