Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

It's important to me to help people and families plan for the unexpected and to gain peace of mind about their future.

I serve members in…

Marion, Illinois, and surrounding communities, primarily. But I also serve members in Missouri and Kentucky.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance, annuities, mutual funds and variable annuities.

I enjoy working with…

families, those approaching retirement, those in retirement and small-business owners.

I attended…

John A. Logan College.

I am very proud of…

earning Sure Start for high first-year achievement, earning my FIC designation, earning several NAIFA Quality Service Awards, qualifying for the VIP program award at Modern Woodmen, earning Century Club, and qualifying for several Modern Woodmen sales conferences. I'm also proud of being named Representative of the Year or first runner-up in the Harness Region the past five out of six years.

Before Modern Woodmen, I…

worked in banking for 10 years.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

I was looking for a career change and somewhere I could make a difference.

The best part of my career is…

helping my members plan for retirement or protecting their families with life insurance. And the relationships I've built over the years. My members are like a family.

A favorite moment in my career was when…

in filing paperwork for a death claim, the widow put her hand on my shoulder and told me I was just like family. She then gave me a hat from her husband's collection and told me her husband would want me to have it. She said all this in front of her children. It was an awesome feeling I left with.

Also…

One of my favorite parts of my job is visiting with my members at our monthly activities. It gives me a chance to get to know my members -- and their guests -- better. The guests are relieved when they know I'm not there to try to sell them anything, but a lot of them end up asking to talk with me.

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my wife, Angie, our daughter, Abby, and our puppy, Dusty.

In my free time, you can find me…

playing basketball, golfing, attending sporting events or going to activities at my church.

I’m passionate about…

the Lord, my family, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kentucky Wildcats.

My greatest blessing is…

my family.

My personal motto is…

"Put others' interests ahead of your own."

My hidden talent is…

singing in a trio with my family at church.

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

for 24 years, and 25 years in another town nearby.

What I like best about my community is…

the small-town people with small-town values.

I’m a member of…

First Baptist Church of Marion, NAIFA and Williamson County Baptist Association.

My favorite volunteer activities are…

anything where I know I'm making a difference and helping people.

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

the monthly social activities where I can visit with my members and build relationships.

My favorite memory from a fraternal event is…

raising $13,000 at a Matching Fund event to help a friend of mine offset expenses from cancer treatment.

Also…

My family and I really enjoy attending Southern Illinois Miners baseball games!

Matching Fund event for Unity Christian School girl's softball team

Modern Woodmen members came together to sell pork butts to raise money for the Unity Christian School girl's softball team. A total of $4,100 was raised, and Modern Woodmen matched $2,500. Funds helped purchase uniforms and equipment for the team. Thank you to everyone who volunteered and contributed to making this event a success! We wish the Lady Warriors a great season!
