Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

I have the daily privilege of meeting with individuals, families and business owners to build relationships. The very first step is to have a conversation. Through conversation, we can uncover what matters the most, what has been addressed, what has not, etc. As trust is established, I have the awesome job of working with my members and prospective members to assess their current financial, savings, retirement and/or insurance situation.

I serve members in…

Indiana and Mississippi.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance and annuities.

I enjoy working with…

people in a variety of situations, but I am particularly passionate about seeing the changes in people, one by one, as they recognize that CHANGE can happen. That they can get 'unstuck' or can avoid potential pitfalls before they even know a pitfall can exist. We do not know what we do not know. My job is to educate. The rest of the planning happens naturally as one transitions into a proactive approach to money and protection as opposed to a reactive stance.

I am very proud of…

the fact that in my first two years with Modern Woodmen I have been a Modern Woodmen trip qualifier (top performer) both years; earned Century Club status (a club of top performers) both years; and obtained my licensing for life insurance, variable life, annuities and mutual funds. In 2016 I earned the Indiana region's Newcomer of the Year award and the Indiana region's Life Writer of the Year award. This career is a calling for me.

Before Modern Woodmen, I…

spent several years in the retail banking industry. I started as a teller and worked my way to branch management. When I left the industry, I was concentrating on consumer loan solutions, debt consolidation and elimination, budgeting, and understanding and improving credit scores, as well as growing the bank's business client base. I also educated my clients on the growing issue of identity theft and offered some options for protecting themselves and their families.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

after being recruited for an entire year by my managing partner I finally listened to the Modern Woodmen story. I had been sought after by other financial services companies, but nothing appealed to me. Once I could see the philanthropic heart of the organization, I was in! I already knew I enjoyed the financial aspect of the job but I LOVE that we're built for members, and that we put our profits back into our members' lives through benefits, community service projects, etc.

The best part of my career is…

finding hope for those who feel too intimidated to address their present or future financial situation. I find that educating my members on options they never realized they had -- simple steps they can take to realize a dream -- is motivation enough for me to keep growing in my knowledge of the industry. I don't want anyone to feel intimated into thinking they have to have it all together or make a certain amount of money. I want to have the conversation and see what we can uncover!

A favorite moment in my career was when…

I met with an 18-year-old high school senior recently, and she and I had a conversation about life insurance (how it works, what it's for, etc.) and what a Roth individual retirement account (IRA) is. She has a part-time job and plans to work through college, so we started her first Roth IRA, putting away $25 per month. She understands she may not have to pay taxes and is already starting an affordable plan to save for her future! And she *gets* it -- she sees the importance of not waiting!

Also…

I am challenged daily to learn something new, improve upon something I have already learned and look for opportunities to use that knowledge for someone else's good!

“My greatest blessing is Jesus. My life is good. My mother lost her life at the age of 52 in the recovery room after a hip replacement surgery, at the hands of a doctor with an active opioid addiction. My husband was fired from his job of 20+ years, blacklisted by his union and nearly ruined by individuals with active opioid addictions. It nearly ruined us financially AND emotionally. But through our faith, lots of prayer and a lot of hard work, we persevered.”

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my husband, David (<3); my dogs, Ginger and Willow; and my cats, Peek-A-Boo and CoCo. <3

In my free time, you can find me…

singing at my church with my worship team family, running errands with my husband, doing a crossword puzzle, spending time with my niece, organizing a random drawer in my home, researching something for one of my members or having coffee with an old friend at my favorite coffee shop Brickhouse Coffee in Greenwood, IN. You may find me at a fraternal event, Matching Fund fundraiser, or at home watching documentaries on Hulu or Amazon.

I’m passionate about…

my faith, setting a good example, having integrity, my marriage.

My greatest blessing is…

Jesus. My life is good. My mother lost her life at the age of 52 in the recovery room after a hip replacement surgery, at the hands of a doctor with an active opioid addiction who was brought into the operating room. My husband was fired from his job of 20+ years, blacklisted by his union and nearly ruined by individuals with active opioid addictions. It nearly ruined us financially AND emotionally. But through our faith, lots of prayer and a lot of hard work, we persevered.

My personal motto is…

even when you're afraid, take a chance and try something new. Don't hold on to the past so tightly that you miss a new opportunity. But ... guard your heart, seek wise counsel and be cautious about who you allow to speak counsel into your life. My financial practice is based on the scripture verse Proverbs 13:16: "All who are prudent act with knowledge but fools expose their folly."

My hidden talent is…

... NOT cooking. My husband is the cook in our house! Seriously, though, I have been a vocalist since I was 3 years old and it is one of the things I do best in life. <3

Also…

I have moved 31 times in my life, all before the age of 35. I have lived in Nashville, Tennessee (and recorded an album while there!), moved to the United Kingdom with my cat, lived in southern England and up in Scotland near Glasgow. For the past 10 years I have been rooted in the Greenwood area and now call this my home. And would be fine to never move again! :-)

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

in Indiana my entire life. I was away for four years while in Tennessee and in the United Kingdom. The Greenwood area is my home now, but I will serve members all over Indiana. I also have my licensing in Mississippi after some of my clients moved there and requested that I stay their servicing representative and agent.

What I like best about my community is…

my home church, Vineyard Community Church! And my job. And the fact that I met my husband here. :-)

I’m a member of…

Greenwood Vineyard Community Church worship team.

My favorite volunteer activities are…

Modern Woodmen of America fraternal chapter events and singing with my worship team at church!

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

Matching Fund projects to raise money for those in need.

My favorite memory from a fraternal event is…

from a Modern Woodmen Matching Fund event for Prevent Child Abuse Indiana. A young man born with fetal alcohol syndrome spoke and shared his testimony. He had to overcome so many hurdles in life, even to be able to speak. He shared the significance just one person can make in changing the course of our lives. His speech therapist was so patient and had such an impact on helping him to speak. He went from being hopeless to *sharing* hope and being an inspiration to me.
