Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

I chose this career because it’s all about helping others. I help my members plan for a secure financial future.

I serve members in…

Central Louisiana, serving Winn and Natchitoches Parishes.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance and annuities.

I enjoy working with…

families and individuals using a modern needs analysis. I enjoy helping business owners establish a successful insurance and retirement program to fit their business needs and future financial needs.

I am very proud of…

being one of the top agents in Louisiana. I am also proud for the several months in 2017 when I was among Modern Woodmen's top 10 in the nation for gaining new members.

Before Modern Woodmen, I…

hardly remember! This year started my 25th year with Modern Woodmen and my 34th year in financial planning business.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

I believe in the organization - not only for how it supports members to help them reach their financial goals, but also for the way it supports my community and allows me to give back.

The best part of my career is…

seeing my MWA members reach their financial goals in retirement while their families are protected for the future. Helping others through our fraternal programs is also at the top of my list.

A favorite moment in my career was when…

I understood the importance of what I do. I had just started with Modern Woodmen when I met a family while playing pool with my kids at a family pool establishment. The family decided to write a small certificate for their kids because they were not covered. A couple of months later, the 16-year-old was trying out his dad's new motorcycle and was killed. Although it tore my heart to deliver the claim, I knew the family would have been in a worse position without this money.

“I chose this career because it’s all about helping others. I help my members plan for a secure financial future.”

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my husband of 45 years, Joel, and three sons and daughters-in-law, Jacob and Rhonda Johnson, Josh and Christina Johnson, and Jody and Emily Johnson. My seven grandchildren are my crown: Cooper, Cole, Kaylene, Addy, Josiah, Cannon and Scarlett.

In my free time, you can find me…

fishing, cooking, canning and spending time with our grands, whether on the ballfield or in the swimming pool.

I’m passionate about…

my church and my family. I love softball and baseball, anytime and anyway.

My greatest blessing is…

my family and better health. After beating cancer in 2015-2016, I am greatly blessed.

My personal motto is…

always remember to remember the Golden Rule! Treat others the way you would like to be treated.

My hidden talent is…

canning and cooking. I love to can in the summer to enjoy all year long.

Community impact

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

for the biggest part of my life, 40 years.

What I like best about my community is…

the amazing people. I've traveled a lot, but I love home the best. After all, it's home. No one is a stranger. People truly care about each other and give back to our community of Winnfield, Louisiana.

I’m a member of…

Zenoria Baptist Church, where my husband is pastor. I started volunteer organization called Cooking For Christ, where we cook and help those in need in our community weekly.

My favorite volunteer activities are…

working with the mentally challenged in my community through fishing or bingo. I also love the planting and cleaning events we Modern Woodmen members have done to give back to our community.

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

Matching Fund projects to raise money for those in need.

My favorite memory from a fraternal event is…

when we had a gumbo event, raising $5,000 to help a family in need. The father had cancer and the money helped offset medical expenses.

Also…

another favorite memory is when we planted shrubs at our new library, which all continue to enjoy.
