Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

I'm so blessed to make a living by helping others and their communities. Each day, I sit down and help people overcome financial concerns and obstacles. I also get to help my community with our fraternal programs and activities. It’s very rewarding to do what I do.

I serve members in…

Alabama.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance, annuities and mutual funds.

I enjoy working with…

individuals, families and small-business owners. We work together to define specific financial goals and implement them through insurance, investments and financial services.

I am very proud of…

earning the Young Philanthropist of the Year Award from United Way. I also earned a place in Modern Woodmen's Executive Club the past few years and was named Representative of the Year for our eastern Alabama region in 2015. I'm also proud of participating in the Gadsden/Etowah Chamber of Commerce's Belong campaign. I was selected Ambassador of the Month in April 2017 and ultimately named ambassador. But most of all, I'm proud of my two children, Nash and Avery Lavender.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

of the impact I saw the organization making in our community and the service I received as a member. I worked for a group benefits company and traveled all over the Southeast before I came to Modern Woodmen. When this opportunity came up, I was excited to come home and serve members in my community. Modern Woodmen gives back millions of dollars to local communities every year. That sets us apart from other financial organizations, and I knew that was something I wanted to be a part of.

The best part of my career is…

helping someone who wants to retire develop a plan to make it happen!

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my husband, Burt, and our two children, Nash and Avery.

In my free time, you can find me…

working out, running with friends, serving at my church, spending time with my husband and family, and volunteering for organizations in our community.

I’m passionate about…

motivating and helping people do better, be better and achieve more than they thought possible. I am also passionate about serving my community, church, family and friends.

My greatest blessing is…

being a follower of Christ, and my two children.

My personal motto is…

Joshua 1:9, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will go with you wherever you go."

My hidden talent is…

crafting. I love to make things! I am still working on my cooking and gardening skills.

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

my entire life.

What I like best about my community is…

how tightknit and willing to help the people are. If there is ever a need, people always come together to help.

I’m a member of…

the Gadsden State Alumni Association, board for Love Center and the Family Success Center of Etowah County, and Etowah Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors (serve as chair). From 2016-2018, I served on the YMCA board. I was part of the James M. Barrie Center and local American Red Cross Chapter boards from 2015-2017. I was the YLS Community Outreach Chair from 2016-2017, and a United Way Loaned Executive.

My favorite volunteer activities are…

working with our local United Way, participating in activities with my church, and helping local organizations raise funds. I also enjoy community clean-up days, particularly Day of Action and Hokes Bluff Clean Up Day. One of my new favorites is building bunk beds with Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

Matching Fund projects to raise money for those in need.

My favorite memory from a fraternal event is…

helping build bunk beds with Sleep in Heavenly Peace for kids in our community without beds.
