Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

I am so blessed to be able to make a living by helping others as well as their communities. Each day, I sit down and help people overcome financial concerns and obstacles. I also get to help my community with our fraternal programs and activities. It’s very rewarding to be able to do what I do.

I serve members in…

Crawford County Illinois and surrounding areas.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance, annuities, stocks, bonds, ETFs, mutual funds and variable annuities.

I enjoy working with…

those approaching retirement, small-business owners and families.

I attended…

Lincoln Trail College.

I am very proud of…

attaining Million Dollar Round Table in 2014, being named Financial Representative of the Year for 2015 in our region, and qualifying for the Modern Woodmen of America 2016 National Sales Conference in San Diego.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

it is a fraternal financial services organization. This means it is more than an insurance company -- it gives much more value to my member clients through community-support programs, and it gives me the opportunity to give back.

The best part of my career is…

helping my members solve their financial problems.

A favorite moment in my career was when…

I had the extremely difficult job of delivering a large death benefit claim check to a client with two young children whose husband had died of cancer. I then truly understood the importance of life insurance and the work that I do.

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my wife, Darla; my sons, Dan and Braden; and my granddaughter, Madison.

In my free time, you can find me…

playing my Taylor guitars at home or in my church worship band, fishing, bike riding around the lake, or swimming in our pool with Madison. Every few years I enjoy a week of wilderness fishing in Canada!

I’m passionate about…

my family, my church, my community and my career.

My greatest blessing is…

my wife, Darla, and sons and granddaughter, as well as my relationship with Christ.

My personal motto is…

Love like Jesus.

My hidden talent is…

playing guitar and singing John Denver songs.

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

since moving back here when I was in eighth grade. My parents were born and raised in Crawford County. My father was in the Air Force so we lived Alaska, Oklahoma and Texas and finally moved back to Illinois when Dad retired.

What I like best about my community is…

The feeling of "community." There are so many caring people who are willing to help each other in times of need.

I’m a member of…

Robinson Free Methodist Church, Oblong Chamber of Commerce and National Wild Turkey Federation (county committee member).

My favorite volunteer activities are…

Modern Woodmen Speech Contest and Matching Funds projects. I also enjoy working with local people on projects that benefit individual families and on projects that benefit the entire area.

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

enjoying social and educational opportunities with my local Modern Woodmen chapter.

My favorite memory from a fraternal event is…

a Matching Fund project where we had a dinner and an auction to benefit an individual with cancer. We had many people volunteer to assist, and many donations from the community for the auction. The event was well attended, and we raised far more than the $2,500 that was matched by Modern Woodmen. The best part is that the person the event was held for is now doing very well!
