Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to work with someone who really cares about their family's financial future. I have the knowledge and resources to help them, and it is extremely gratifying to do so.

I serve members in…

Wisconsin and several other states. With virtual meetings as an option, there are very few limitations.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance and retirement annuities for accumulation or income.

I enjoy working with…

business owners, people who recently changed jobs or careers, individuals near retirement, and anyone who loves and cares about the people in their lives and want to leave a legacy.

I attended…

the University of Wisconsin Parkside. My background in art education helps me be creative to develop a plan for each person’s unique situation. My background in teaching helps me educate people about the importance of planning and making an impact for their family. I love to help people understand how powerful planning is.

I've also achieved industry designations (FIC and FSCP) through coursework completed with The American College.

I am very proud of…

the personal and professional growth I've achieved by working with other professionals and the best members in the world! Continuing to grow each year is a testament to the great organization I represent. I'm also proud of how satisfied my members are with the work we’ve done together.

Before Modern Woodmen, I…

worked for 17 years at Gonnella Baking Company, building lifelong relationships. I began working toward becoming a financial representative in 2011. I left the bakery to become an area manager for Fox River Foods while still working toward my goal of representing Modern Woodmen of America.

I also own two rental properties, which I purchased in the early 2000s as part of my retirement plan.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

I've been a member since I was a child. My representative first approached me about a career when I bought my first house at age 19. My father passed away in 2003 with no life insurance. It was a very difficult time for my sister and me. I knew then why my own plan was so important. I believe an organization with Modern Woodmen's strength and values is the perfect platform to help as many people as possible begin planning at a young age.

The best part of my career is…

helping people create wealth for their families through individualized plans, being active in the community, and building a financial future for my own family.

A favorite moment in my career was when…

I inherited members who were considering cashing in their cash-value life insurance. After explaining the benefits and reassuring them of the importance of their plan, they decided to keep the certificates. Roughly six months later, the husband passed away. It would have been a costly mistake if they had cashed in the plan. I help people understand what they have or could have.

Also…

I really enjoy leading Modern Woodmen chapters. Helping in the community, and seeing the appreciation from members and guests, is very rewarding.

“My personal motto is helping people improve their quality of life is constantly improving my own.”

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my wife, Karyn, my son, Zachary, and my daughter, Nicole. Can't forget our giant cat, Willow.

In my free time, you can find me…

walking or e-biking with Karyn, hunting, fishing, golfing, visiting Nicole at her new apartment, or visiting Zach at his house.

I’m passionate about…

spending time with my family. I really enjoy just about anything outdoors. Recently, Karyn and I have begun exploring this beautiful country of ours.

My greatest blessing is…

my health and family. I could not do this career without my wife's ongoing support. Now that Karyn is also with Modern Woodmen, she sees firsthand how gratifying it is to serve others through this career.

My personal motto is…

helping people improve their quality of life is constantly improving my own.

My hidden talent is…

writing poetry. I made a book of poetry in eighth grade, and most of mine are original. I also wrote poems that lured my high school sweetheart in! My daughter even took my book to her teacher to show off my work.

Also…

I love to sit in the woods, or on a boat, and let my mind wonder. Even though social media is important, I simply love when I can shut it off. I know when enough is enough!

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

For just a few months! Karyn and I had lived in Kenosha most of our lives. Now we are embracing Stevens Point and the surrounding areas.

What I like best about my community is…

Exploring! It's fun to visit new restaurants, e-bike the trails, and discover new lakes and rivers. I love the nature up here!

I’m a member of…

Million Dollar Round Table in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023; the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors; the National Association of Fraternal Insurance Counselors; and The American College of Financial Services Alumni Association.

My favorite volunteer activities are…

Matching Fund projects and collecting food and clothing for families in need. This year, we enjoyed cleaning up trash and removing invasive plant species by Shagbark Pond and behind Bradford. Our 5K run to honor vets, the Run to Remember, was my favorite event.

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

enjoying social and educational opportunities with my local Modern Woodmen chapter.

My favorite memory from a fraternal event is…

when an individual tears up and thanks me and Modern Woodmen for the money we helped raise for them. This happens a few times each year. I don't know how representing an organization that does this type of giving can get any more satisfying!

Also…

I never feel like I'm "at work." Yes, there are things that need to be done that can feel like work, but when I'm helping people and truly making a difference, I know I'm where I need to be.

Blanket drive for Penny's Purpose

I was introduced to April, of Penny's Purpose, through a good friend and client. She started the organization after her mom passed away. Penny's Purpose has created a positive impact through a program that donates blankets to those in need. Through our members' hard work and volunteering, we were able to make and collect almost 20 blankets! The appreciation we experienced is truly rewarding. In 2022, we've collected even more.
