Modern Woodmen members present check to a child with a rare form of brain cancer

Modern Woodmen members presented $2,000 to Melanie Putnam to represent the group’s fundraising match for River Putnam. River is an 11-year-old boy who can't attend school this year because he was diagnosed with a very rare form of brain cancer, called germinoma. They found out in July 2019, and he has already undergone two brain surgeries, four rounds of chemo, multiple scans, infections and hospital stays. The money raised will help his family with medical expenses. Modern Woodmen's Matching Fund Program gives Modern Woodmen members the chance to support a community cause, organization or individual in need through fundraisers. Members also can take part in social and educational activities and volunteer projects that meet local needs.

Birthday Book Club | Modern Woodmen

Our Birthday Book Club program is one step toward building your home library! Each year, member children can receive a free, age-appropriate book for their birthday. Ask me how to sign up your child.

Bold mission. Big responsibility. That's what being a financial representative at Modern Woodmen is all about. You help members and your community every day through financial advice and fraternal programs. Ready to live boldly in your career? Let's talk.

Ready to declutter your finances? Here are five tips to spring clean your budget. 1. Conduct your own expense audit. Go through the last one to three months of expenses and locate potential wasteful spending. 2. Cancel or reduce subscriptions. Ask yourself if there are any you can downgrade. 3. Set spending caps. Set limits on a few categories – like eating out, shopping or coffee runs – to remain flexible. 4. Map out irregular expenses. Put money aside for things like car repairs, gifts, home maintenance and travel to prepare for the future. 5. Set one budget goal per month. Examples include reducing food delivery by $80, paying off a bill or building an emergency cushion.

Did you or your student apply for one of the 2026 Modern Woodmen scholarships? Winners will be notified in April. Best of luck and keep following your dreams!
