Last month, my car broke down. This wasn’t just a flat tire or a quick fix. I had to go buy a new car. Did I think this would happen at some point? Yes. Did I think it would happen so soon? No. My car broke down on the way to an appointment. It started smoking. I had to call a tow truck and have my assistant pick me up from the dealership. It’s moments like this that make me grateful to have an emergency fund. Here’s the thing… you never know when an emergency will occur. That’s why it’s so important to have an emergency fund. “It’s too late for me to plan for retirement. I’ve come to terms with it already.” This was a conversation I had with one of my clients recently. With kids, debt, and other expenses… retirement fell to the back burner. He was bracing for the worst. However, we found a way that he could start and improve. We surrendered one of his policies to pay off the remaining debt. Then we opened a retirement account. The monthly payments that used to go toward debt are now used to save!
