Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

I’m passionate about helping my members determine their financial goals. We work together to create a plan based on their unique needs.

I serve members in…

central Maine, including Androscoggin, Cumberland, Kennebec and Sagadahoc counties.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance, annuities, mutual funds and variable annuities.

I enjoy working with…

individuals of all ages in order to preserve their hard-earned money and create options for a secure and safe retirement. I also like to show small-business owners how they can retain quality employees by creating retirement plan options for them and their employees.

I attended…

St. Dominic Regional High School in Lewiston, Maine, and Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts.

I am very proud of…

working with an organization that cares about the individual clients and invests in the youth in the communities we serve. I've seen the results of our youth educational programs first-hand over the last 12 years as a state chairman for central and southern Maine's division of Modern Woodmen's School Speech Contest. After 29 years in the industry, this organization shows it cares about people, not just sales.

Before Modern Woodmen, I…

was an insurance agent with Prudential for 14 years, and have been in retail sales since 1977.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

the organization represents doing the right thing for your client, and not just the expedient thing.

The best part of my career is…

being recommended by my current clients to help their friends and family. Whether it's planning for retirement or protection plans with life insurance, I am their go-to guy, not just a salesman.

A favorite moment in my career was when…

I was asked if I could still help clients of a previous employer in handling a death in the family. It seems they were lost in the system somewhere. I felt honored to be a guiding hand to show how we handle our members and word of my interaction spread like fire throughout the community. It's the little things you do that far surpass whatever you say in this business!

“I chose Modern Woodmen because the organization represents doing the right thing for your client, and not just the expedient thing.”

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my wife, Valerie, and my three adult children, Melissa, Patrick and Kristina.

In my free time, you can find me…

on the golf course trying to improve on my fade, at my local social club playing pool or visiting the kids and my wife's family in Massachusetts. I'm also learning all kinds of small construction projects around our home.

I’m passionate about…

my family and friends -- and the Boston Bruins, the Red Sox and the Revolution.

My greatest blessing is…

having had the ability to make time early in my children's youth to be there for them in their school events and their hockey, soccer, tennis and softball games to cheer them on or just give them a hug afterward.

My personal motto is…

Time is the most precious value in life. Don't waste a minute of it.

My hidden talent is…

I can sing pretty darn good and play pool competitively in two leagues.

Community impact

In the community

In the community

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

over 60 years, and I love the area for its four-seasons weather.

What I like best about my community is…

we live in a city, but we know our neighbors pretty well. We have cookouts in the neighbor's yard or ours, help each other when a helping hand is needed and watch out for each other's property when one is out of town.

I’m a member of…

the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, the Webber Ave. Social Club as a director, the Lisbon Slovak Club and Pastime Club.

My favorite volunteer activities are…

working with the hundreds of kids in the School Speech Contest, fifth through eighth graders, and seeing the growth in their accomplishments. Also, working with the several clubs in our community to help raise money for college funds through volunteering in balloon festivals, participating in sponsored events like tournaments and getting involved with other functions.

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

the Matching Fund programs to benefit schools and other organizations that our community comes out and supports. Also, the youth educational programs, such as the School Speech Contest and Financial Literacy Program to help our kids learn respect, dignity and how to present themselves as well as thinking about their future.

My favorite memory from a fraternal event is…

when we raised over $4,000 for a local youth hockey team for new jerseys and to help with dues for some kids to be able to play during the year. The kids' faces lit up like Christmas!
