Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

I've been investing for over 30 years and have done many things very well -- and I've learned from things that didn't go as planned. My goal is to lessen your learning curve by sharing my experiences, educating you and encouraging you. I look for opportunities to accomplish multiple goals with the same dollar. I've seen what a difference good planning and strategies can make and want to give all my clients that edge.

I serve members in…

Colorado (Castle Rock, Denver and surrounding areas) and Ohio.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance and annuities.

I enjoy working with…

people at all stages of life, but especially those approaching retirement, small-business owners and families planning for college.

I attended…

The Ohio State University.

I am very proud of…

earning numerous awards for my hard work, including Agent of the Year, Fraternalist of the Year, Century Club and more.

Before Modern Woodmen, I…

was in the insurance industry for eight years, owned my own consulting business for nine years, spent a few years staying at home with my three kids (now 21, 19 and 19), and worked in various roles in health information management, quality assurance and technology.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

I did a research project for another planner and found 9 out of 10 advisors just wanted to get hold of my money to "make more." I liked Modern Woodmen's holistic approach to build the plan from the ground up. The second project was to research excellent permanent life insurance companies and Modern Woodmen was among their ranks. I was a former Jaycee (community service and leadership group) and so the fraternal side really intrigued me. I love making a difference in people's lives.

The best part of my career is…

making a difference in people's lives by helping them understand they are protected and have a plan/goal in mind for retirement.

A favorite moment in my career was when…

a client who was putting off getting life insurance finally did. Months later, he was diagnosed with a condition that made him uninsurable, but I knew his family was protected for life.

Also…

I love to learn, especially about college planning and retirement. I’ve participated in several training schools developed by Modern Woodmen, such as the Financial Advisors Forum, Retirement Distribution, Estate Planning and Business Insurance. I also reach out frequently to the wealth of knowledge we have at our corporate office to brainstorm cases.

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my husband, Kirk, my son, Daniel, and my twins, Ryan and Jenna (3 kids in 22 months!), plus my dogs, Dakota and Oakley.

In my free time, you can find me…

skiing, golfing, hiking, at the gym, watching volleyball and soccer, and traveling.

I’m passionate about…

my family and friends, Plum Creek Community Church, and travel (only have 2 more continents to reach my goal of being on every continent - Antarctica and South America).

My greatest blessing is…

my family and my health. I was disabled a few years ago with a back injury. I know the cost of chronic pain -- financially, emotionally and physically. After back surgery and a total hip replacement, I'm doing great now.

My personal motto is…

be grateful for everything and everyone.

My hidden talent is…

that I'm an adrenaline junkie. Ask me about the extreme things I've done over the years!

Community impact

In the community

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

in Colorado for 20 years -- and almost all of the rest of my life in Ohio.

What I like best about my community is…

Castle Rock is a fantastic small town filled with great people.

I’m a member of…

Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce and Plum Creek Community Church. I've volunteered for the Women's Crisis Center for over 13 years. I completed the Leadership Douglas County Leadership Program and Class Project in 2017.

My favorite volunteer activities are…

ones where I get to interact with the people whose lives I'm impacting. I definitely have a heart for children and animals.

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

Matching Fund to make a difference in our community, free youth educational programs, our fun social and educational activities, and working event booths.

My favorite memory from a fraternal event is…

when I helped raise money through a Silent Auction and Restaurant Night for a family whose son was shot and killed while away at college. They quickly started a foundation so the money could help make changes on campuses and send homeless kids to college. I will never forget the hug the mom gave me. It was so important to the family's healing process to know that the community cared.
