Why I do what I do

Why I do what I do

I am so blessed to be able to make a living by helping others as well as their communities. Each day, I sit down and help people overcome financial concerns and obstacles. I also get to help my community with our fraternal programs and activities. It’s very rewarding to be able to do what I do.

I serve members in…

communities in and around Freeman, South Dakota. I also serve members in Texas, Iowa, Washington and various other states.

I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…

life insurance, annuities, mutual funds and variable annuities.

I enjoy working with…

a variety of members. Every day is different. Every member is different, and I enjoy hearing their personal stories. I appreciate being a part of their life stories and watching their families grow.

I attended…

Roscoe High School (graduated in 1989) and Northern State University (graduated in 1993).

I am very proud of…

earning the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) award in 2014 and 2015, and earning President's Club in 2014 and 2015.

Before Modern Woodmen, I…

worked with Tradehome Shoes from 1990-1999. From 1999 until now, I have been a part of insurance and financial services.

I chose Modern Woodmen because…

I believe in Modern Woodmen's values, how this organization supports its members to help them reach their financial goals, and how it supports the community and allows me to pay it forward.

The best part of my career is…

when I know that I have built strong, healthy relationships with my members. When I meet with some of my members, I often get a hug when they come in or leave. It is then that I know we have built a relationship that makes a significant impact on both of our lives.

A favorite moment in my career was when…

I was able to hire my office assistant and open my office. It was twofold: I had more work than I could do myself, and I could see the future of my business growing.

“I enjoy working with a variety of members. Every day is different. Every member is different, and I enjoy hearing their personal stories. I appreciate being a part of their life stories and watching their families grow.”

My life outside of work

My family includes…

my wife, Amy, my daughter, Morgan, and my late son, Jackson.

In my free time, you can find me…

doing something to get involved with my family, friends or community. I enjoy attending ballgames, track meets and music events. I also like to ride my bike, spend time in my garden and share the bounty produce.

I’m passionate about…

my faith, my family, my friends and my community. I feel like we are put here to make a difference, so I try to live by that each day.

My greatest blessing is…

my family and friends. I also feel blessed to have the ability to do what I love and make connections with people in my community.

My personal motto is…

the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

My hidden talent is…

being able to communicate and relate with people. I don't know that I would call that a talent, but I feel like it is a gift.

Community impact

My local community impact

I have lived in my community…

for the last 17 years.

What I like best about my community is…

the close relationships. They genuinely care for one another and make extra efforts to reach out and help each other. You don't really know what your community is really made of until you go through something significant. When we lost our son, we found out how extremely supportive our community really is. What a blessing they have been.

I’m a member of…

NAFIA, MDRT, President's Club, my church and Freeman Community Development Cooperation.

My favorite volunteer activities are…

any volunteer projects, especially when it involves the youth in the community.

It’s very important to me to support my community. My favorite Modern Woodmen programs are:

Matching Fund projects to raise money for those in need.

My favorite memory from a fraternal event is…

the Movie on Main Street fundraiser for the Jackson Lee Vetch Memorial Fund. It means so much to me and my family to see the community come together and show support for the youth. It's a great night of friends and fellowship.
