Current insights
This holiday season, reimagine what giving back can look like. Here are a few ways to make heartfelt community gestures. 1. Partner with a local animal shelter to host a “pet pantry” of donated pet food, treats and toys. 2. Organize a holiday story hour at a local library or school and read seasonal books aloud. 3. Set up a tree at a local business where community members can hang donated hats, gloves and scarves for those in need. 4. Provide moments of joy on everyday routes by leaving holiday cards or small treats for postal workers or delivery drivers. Modern Woodmen members, apply for a $200 Do-Good Grant®️ to try one of these ideas! https://www.modernwoodmen.org/do-good-grant/
Our New England Region which includes Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Vermont came together in Gorham, NH in October for our Regional Meeting. We had the pleasure of welcoming Jennifer Majetic and Clint Pogemiller from the home office as guest speakers. After the meeting, we collaborated on our Fraternal Impact Challenge Activity. We had over $16,000 available to complete this project, which we used to fill more than 400 bags and donate to homeless military veteran organizations in our community. When everyone departed that day in October, each region left with 100 backpacks. Each backpack was filled with a portable blanket, hat, gloves, wool socks, toiletries, hand warmers and other essentials. The backpacks were delivered to organizations such as Veteran's Housing Services (Preble Street) and Boothbay Veterans. All involved--many of whom were veterans themselves and personally understood the true sacrifice--left with a full heart and a deep sense of appreciation and gratitude for our veterans and the support we were able to provide.
