About me

About me

About me

Who I am at and outside of work

My family includes…

my beautiful and supportive wife, Lauren, and our dachshund-pit bull (“Pit-Weenie”) rescue, Lucy. I am the youngest of three brothers. My father served in the Air Force for 24 years before devoting himself to community service in his hometown, and my wonderful mother now works as one of my administrative assistants after a career in dental hygiene.

I'm a member of…

the City of Denton Planning and Zoning Commission, Denton Development Code Review Committee, the Denton Parks Foundation, and the Denton Chamber of Commerce (ambassador).

I'm passionate about…

my community and the impact I can make through serving others. I have always felt the desire to put others above myself and find new and interesting ways to sacrifice my time, talent and treasure so I can leave an impact on others around me long after I am gone.

Our team

Our team

Our team

Who & how we serve

Our team includes…

a group of like-minded individuals who embody our values of being devoted team players, relationship managers (not asset managers) and valued citizens. My administrative staff members are the ladies who run my (work) life. Jana Smith handles our general paraplanning and the day-to-day operations of my personal practice. Alyvia Turner is our recruitment coordinator and assists in managing the region's social media accounts.

We serve members in…

North-Central Texas: Gainesville to Waxahachie and Coppell to Mt. Pleasant. But, of course, we have licenses in almost every state and can help whoever needs it!

We’re passionate about…

impacting through relationships. Our mission is to "build, create and foster relationships, both personally and professionally, so that we can serve others around us.”

We focus on…

all areas of financial planning: protection, savings/budgeting, retirement savings, investments, employee benefits and business planning.

We're unique because…

of our approach to treating our team and members. As a team, we believe senior representatives are called to serve the new associates, and as representatives, we see ourselves as being master relationship managers. These values feed our desire to be community pillars and valued citizens through fraternalism.

Our current career opportunities include…

always looking for others who believe, after reading about our organization and team, they would be the perfect fit. On paper, we hire financial representatives. In reality, we hire amazing people who fit our culture.

How we make a difference

We feel it’s important to support the communities we serve because…

it directly ties into being valued citizens. As a fraternal organization, we collectively want to do what is best and right for others around us. Our team here in North Texas wants to take that to a new level: not only giving back, but, being seen as a community pillar that folks can look to and lean on in a time of need. Why? If we don’t step up and serve others, who will?

We feel strongly about supporting our communities at a local level. One way we're able to make a positive impact is through Modern Woodmen activities and programs. We especially enjoy:

being involved with our local school districts. Education is the foundation to success, and if we can help even just one child grow educationally, who knows what impact we could make over the next 60 to 70 years of that child's life.

Our philosophy on volunteering is…

making it a PRIORITY to volunteer together once per quarter. While many of the representatives on our team have ongoing efforts in their local community, we feel that if we collectively gather our time, talent, and treasure, we can make an even greater impact.

We’re most proud of…

our team volunteering efforts. Most recently, we made an impact by painting a local Dallas homeless shelter, packing hygiene kits for a sexual and domestic abuse shelter, and packing food with a local university’s athletic program for a homeless outreach program in North Texas.

Also…

I frame my life with this thought from Goethe: "If I accept you as you are, I will make you worse; however, if I treat you as though you are what you are capable of becoming, I help you become that."

Continued impact through the Denton County Police Department's youth summer program

Over the course of five years, the local Denton office of Modern Woodmen has assisted in raising over $50,000 for the Denton Police Department and their Youth Summer Program. In 2013, this program targeted students in Denton ISD, funded primarily by the seven school resource officers’ own money. The kids would get a sack lunch and an overnight trip to a local lake for a camping trip. Marc Hodges (the school resource officer at Denton Ryan High School) and I began discussions about how Modern Woodmen could help change that. Soon an idea to sell raffle tickets for a donated VISA gift card or iPad was put into action, and to this day it's the main fundraising source for this program. Instead of sack lunches, they get catered food, and instead of going to the lake, the kids now go to Red River, New Mexico, to go off-roading for a weekend!
